Welcome to a Family History Development Website

This began as a project for my class on Knowledge Management (SI 670) and builds off an existing module project for the Drupal CMS. Unfortunately the community development activity with this module seems to come in sporadic bursts. So I have been working on modifications independently. Once I feel I have made a significant improvement I will post my changes to the project.

The module aims to map relationships between individuals. In this case, linking individuals as part of families, and linking stories, images, etc. to individuals. I intend to also to link stories and documents to individuals/families. Not only would this be a great way to make family stories and images available to all members of an extended family, but also link individuals in stories to their genealogical data, providing a context for the characters one may not be familiar with. The system also allows collaborative family history research between geographically dispersed researchers by providing a central location for research data.

If this system is abstracted (which I intend to do once I have a good family history version running) one could use the system to model project based organizational structures and allow a central project document/knowledge repository. It would also allow navigation of the organization by navigating between projects employees are (and have been) involved in. I realize that there are a great deal of privacy controls that need to be built in (aside from an existing measure), so there will be quite a bit of time before this takes off.

Since this project is no longer class work, it has been placed on the back burner. I hope to work on it more this after I graduate this April.
